Giving to Thornhill Parish Church

 Our church family at Thornhill is blessed with a beautiful, welcoming, and active parish — but keeping it that way takes care and commitment. 

It costs around £250 a day to run our church.  The largest part of that is our weekly Parish Share (£760), which supports our Rector and the wider work of the Diocese. We also pay over £200 each week in insurance for our Grade I Listed building. 

While Gift Aid brings in about £10 a day, we depend on your financial gifts to sustain our worship, care for our churchyard, and reach out to the local community in faith and fellowship. 

 

How Your Giving Helps 

Your donations support: 

  • * Worship and ministry at the heart of Thornhill 

  • * Community outreach, children’s work, and local partnerships 

  • * Upkeep and renewal of our historic church and churchyard 

Special projects — such as restoration work or community initiatives — are funded separately through grants and one‑off donations. 

 

How Much Should I Give? 

There is no fee to belong or attend — only what you feel able to give. 

As a guide, the Church of England encourages giving around 10% of your income, half to your local church and half to other charities. Here’s an example:

If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid increases your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you. 

All giving is kept secure and confidential by our Parish Gift Aid Officer. 

 

Ways to Give 

  1. Regular Giving – Parish Giving Scheme 

The simplest way to give regularly is through the parishgiving.org.uk. 

Search for Thornhill Parish Church (Ref: 460646579) and set up a Direct Debit online. Paper forms are also available in church.

  • Donate by cheque, made payable to Thornhill Parochial Church Council. 

If you give regularly by standing order or PGS, you’ll find giving cards at the back of church to place on the plate as a symbol of your offering.
