United Benefice of Thornhill & Whitley Lower
Serving our local communities
Giving
to Thornhill Parish Church
The running costs of our friendly church family and warm and well-ordered church are £205/day. Our main cost is £700 a week for the Parish Share to the Diocese who pay for our Rector. On average only about £30/day is paid for by the Government, so we need your financial help to fulful our mission to worship God, to minister to the needs of Thornhill so that the local community grows in faith and fellowship as a family of believers.
We fund separately through grants & special donations our renewal projects, churchyard upkeep, community initiatives and work with children.
How much should I give?
This question is asked by visitors and church members. We do not want to be prescriptive – there is no membership or visitor fee. We ask people to give what they decide that they can afford.
The Church of England has always encouraged people to give 10% of their income away; half to the church and half to their chosen charities. The table below gives a model of how much this would mean for those with different taxed income.

How to give?
The most convenient way for us to receive a regular donation is by standing order. If you would like give to the work of the Thornhill Parish Church via standing order click here to download a standing order form. Please complete the form and send it to your bank or use the details to set up a standing order by phone or online with your bank. Please tell the Gift Aid Officer or the Treasurer that you have done this and fill in a Gift Aid form if you wish here. If you want to give a single donation, pay by BACS, or a cheque, payable to Thornhill Parochial Church Council. You can also give using our envelope scheme or by putting cash on the collection plate at any service. If you give by standing order there are ‘gifting cards’ available at the back of church to symbolise your offering which can be put on the collection plate each week. You can also use our Cotactless Givig machine in church.
