Heritage Weekend 2010 1940s remembered

Put your thinking caps on: can you remember the 1940's or indeed 1945. If so get out your photographs, your medals , your reminiscences, your scrapbooks and your clothes of this time. If you can't -ask your parents , grandparents or great grandparents or friends or families. Why?- this will be the theme of the weekend and specifically to remember 65 years since the end of the war. May 18th 1945 VE Day and September 2nd 1945 signing of the peace in Japan treaty. We want to have an exhibition of all the things you can find. Do you remember the East Window going down the mine- which mine- how long was it there? Where did you go to school-where did you work- what did you do in your spare time, what about rationing, what happened on VE day and VJ day in Thornhill or Dewsbury? On Friday 10th September we have a special evening of 40's music form Miscellany- would you like to dress up and enter into the spirit of the evening. What else can we do?- special services, war time food. Write down your ideas and let Brian Pearson or Tony Ridley have them.

Our Annual Church Meeting was held on the 18th April 2010 when we elected Churchwardens and PCC Members and reported on our Year in 2009. Our Churchwardens are now Bob Pickles and Mark Naylor. Tony Ridley has stood down after 20 years as Churchwarden . We thank Tony for his contributions over this long period. Leaders of the various groups gave their annual reports and showed the vast range of things going on in the church and what a lively and serving place it is. See our Annual Report here.            See our Annual Accounts here The only downside on the report was that we had a deficit of over £4000 on the year and failed to pay some £2300 on the Common Fund to the Diocese.
